about us

Divine Mercy Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Ambattur

Divine Mercy Church, Ambattur began its spiritual journey in the early part of 2005 as a small unit under St. Thomas Pastoral Centre, Ayanavaram. Following the Popular Mission Retreat in February 2005, the community experienced renewed spiritual growth and active participation. During this foundational period, the unit was guided by Rev. Fr. Jose Vettiyangal VC, followed by Rev. Fr. Thomas Ambattukuzhi VC, and later Rev. Fr. Mathew Kakatupulli VC, whose leadership strengthened the growing faith community.

During the tenure of Rev. Fr. Mathew Kakatupulli VC, the unit consisted of only 15 families. With faith and vision, Rev. Fr. George Arackal VC took the initiative to establish Divine Mercy Church, Ambattur as an independent parish under the Chennai Mission. After the parish was officially established, he personally visited and blessed all the family homes. The parish was then organized into seven units, each with elected leadership to serve the community effectively.

Today, Divine Mercy Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Ambattur has grown into a vibrant parish of nearly 140 families, actively participating in spiritual, pastoral, and charitable activities. In 2017, with the formation of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Hosur, the parish began functioning under the diocese in close collaboration with the Vincentian Congregation.

As a faith-filled parish rooted in the Syro-Malabar tradition and guided by Divine Mercy, we continue our mission of prayer, evangelization, unity, and compassionate service. Our parish stands as a living witness to God’s grace, growing together as one family in Christ.
